Graduate Certificate in Airport Management

Airport Management is available only as a post graduate certificate for applicants with a relevant undergraduate degree OR relevant experience. The course will prepare you to progress in the airport management industry by imparting a strong understanding of airport managerial and planning issues together with a broader knowledge of leadership, communication, strategic management, sustainability and systems thinking.

The degree is one of the few postgraduate degrees in the world designed to educate airport managers with the opportunity of on-campus and online delivery modes. All courses are focused on airport or aviation management topics with guest lecturers who have expertise in the airport business sector. If you are already working in the air transport industry, this program will prepare you to take the next major step in a career in airport management.

Core Units:

Airport Planning and Management

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the various facets of airport planning and management. Particularly, this unit focus on master plan development, governance models, airport regulatory environments, community relations, airport marketing, economics, financing and operations. Guest lecturers with industry background will deliver this unit in a seminar style to ensure that students actively engage with the material at an appropriate depth of airport planning and management.

Strategic Airline and Airport Management

This course gives students an application based understanding of the key management skills necessary for formulating and implementing effective strategic planning.

Elective Units:

Airline Management

The aviation industry is a high cost undertaking relying on sophisticated technology in all areas of its business activities. There is a need for future aviation sector managers to understand this complex environment and the many management challenges and pitfalls that are present. The course is designed to provide an insight into all management areas of the aviation business so that future managers have a broad perspective in a growing competitive and increasingly globalized industry. Prior Assumed: Nil Incompatible: AVN7001 Airline Management, AVN3008 Aviation Management for Pilots and 3008AVN Aviation Management for Pilots.

Aviation Economics

This course explores the highly specific economics associated with the aviation industry. It will introduce students to basic economic theories and concepts and applies these concepts to the aviation industry. Prior Assumed: Nil Incompatible: AVN7004 Aviation Economics

Safety Management Systems

This course will examine the key elements of a safety management system and the associated systems, processes and procedures used in achieving high safety standards in aviation organisations. There will be a strong emphasis on the importance of critical thinking with regards to methods, systems and processes used to implement safety management systems to enhance aviation safety.

Project Management

The course discusses the elements of planning and controlling projects and incorporates time management, managing conflicts, cost control, executive involvement, performance and review, communication and decision analysis. Prior Assumed: Nil Incompatible: AVN7006 Project Management

Aviation Leadership and Communication

An aviation professional needs to possess strong leadership and communications skills. This course develops the leadership theme by looking at the various leadership styles and students will research a successful aviation leader. The communications theme focuses on writing styles that lead to success in the industry.


Academic Requirements - Graduate Certificate in Airport Management

Candidates for admission to this Graduate Certificate program must have:

  • at least three years supervisory experience in the aviation or airport industry
  • OR possess a completed Bachelor degree from an official university in a study area related to business, management or aviation. Suitability is assessed on a case by case basis.

Language Requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
  • OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
  • OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
  • OR a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • OR a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
  • OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50.

English test results must be no more than two years old.
